CALHOUN, Ga. — An 11-year-old was seriously injured Saturday morning after a 4-wheeler collided with a car in Calhoun, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

Troopers said the crash happened around 10:23 a.m. at the intersection of Pioneer Drive SE and Lois Street SE, near Union Grove Church Road.

Investigators determined the juvenile was driving a 1991 Suzuki LTE 4-wheeler north on Lois Street when they failed to yield at a stop sign and entered the path of a 2004 Mercedes-Benz E320. The Mercedes struck the 4-wheeler on the front right side, sending the ATV off the south side of the roadway where it came to rest.

The child was wearing a helmet but still suffered serious injuries. They were airlifted by Life Force to a hospital; their condition has not been released.

The crash remains under investigation.
