Plainville Man Arrested on Aggravated Assault, False Imprisonment Charges

GORDON COUNTY, Ga. – A Plainville resident reported to deputies Thursday morning that she had been attacked inside her home by a man armed with a pair of scissors, according to Gordon County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Mitch Ralston said the incident was reported at approximately 9:30 a.m. The victim, with assistance from another woman, was able to fend off the alleged attacker, who then fled the scene.

Deputies identified the suspect as Dwight S. Hunter, 65. Authorities developed information about Hunter’s whereabouts, and he was located and arrested by the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office near Adairsville. He was subsequently transferred to the Gordon County Jail.

Hunter has been charged with aggravated assault, false imprisonment, battery/elder abuse, three counts of terroristic threats involving alleged threats against the victim’s family, and violation of probation.

According to the sheriff’s office, Hunter has a criminal history dating back to the 1970s and has spent a significant portion of his life incarcerated within the Georgia prison system. Officials said he was on probation at the time of his arrest for prior convictions that included aggravated assault and kidnapping.

Sheriff Ralston thanked the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office for its assistance in locating and apprehending the suspect.

The case remains under investigation.
