Gordon County considers keeping same budget numbers

CALHOUN, Ga.-Creating a budget is underway in Gordon County amid the uncertainty created by the global pandemic.
“We’re recommending the same budget as last year without creating additional expenditures,” said James Ledbetter, Gordon County Attorney and Administrator.
Ledbettter said the general fund expenditures came to $37,919,220, which is a 1.74-percent increase of $647, 037.
The Special Revenue Fund Expenditures is 7,387,098.
The Enterprise Fund Expenditures 1,607,368.
The Capital Project Fund Expenditures 14,327,131.

The Gordon County Board of Commissioners met on Tuesday to discuss budget issues.
The total comes to $61,240,817.
Inter-fund transfers of $5,209,847 which is comprised of $100,000 from Solid Waste Management fund, $110,000 from jail maintenance fund, and $4,826,247 from the General Fund reserves.
This represents a decrease of $1,019,417 or 16.83-percent of transfers from the 2019-2020 budget.
This leaves a total of $56,030,970.

Budget Time Line
May 20 – June 2, 2020: Budget workshops with the Board of Commissioners and county staff to discuss the recommended budget.
May 6, 13 & 20, 2020: Newspaper advertisement notifying the public that the recommended budget is available for review and the time and date of the budget public hearing.
June 2, 2020: Budget public hearing to obtain citizen comments (during commission meeting).
June 3 & 10, 2020: Newspaper advertisement notifying the public that the recommended budget is available for review and the time and date of the adoption of the budget resolution.
June 16, 2020: Adoption of the budget resolution (during commission meeting).
July 1, 2020 :FY 2020-21 budget in effect through June 30, 2021.
